Water is the easiest material to batch, but takes the most time and has the greatest effect on the quality of the concrete.  It is batched in two ways: weigh batching and volumetric batching.

Weigh batching is controlled solely by the use of valves. The flow rate through a valve is easily determined using hydrologic equations. The weight tolerances for water can be determined with the use a single cut-off valve. The volumetric batching of water uses a water meter to achieve the needed volume. The most commonly used water meters are the turbine type or the wobble plate type. These meters can be remote or manually controlled. If a meter cannot deliver the required flow rate, multiple meters may be used.

Most admixtures are now used in liquid form. This creates the opportunity to utilize the volumetric batching processes previously stated.
